A Taoist master came upon a small group of 4 men whilst walking in his local village. The group were surrounding a lone man in a threatening way and were shouting profanities at him. He was an obvious stranger to the village. The master asked ‘what is the problem and why are you shouting at this man’. One of the group stated, ‘this man is an outsider to our village and he is not welcome in our village’. The master thought for one moment and replied to the group ‘ this man walks like you, talks like you, is a son just like you, can you not look at the many wonderful things that you have in common, rather than the small things that you do not?’. There came an eerie silence before one of the group stepped forward and shook the man’s hand, apologising for his poor behaviour and welcoming the man to the village.
